Meet A Creative: Joelle Cowie behind THE BURNING TOOL

“Draw the art you want to see, start the business you want to run, play the music you want to hear, write the books you want to read, build the products you want to use – do the work you want to see done.”

Austin Kleon

Hi,my name is Joelle Cowie. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

The Burning Tool started as a hobby and a creative outlet for me to practice some pyrography and painting. Now it has turned a creative space that promotes all kinds of creativity.

I have a strong appreciation for all types of art, design, DIY products, and photography and other forms of creativity.

For as long as I can remember I’ve always loved using my hands to create things. This could be its sewing clothes, drawing objects around the house, painting nature scenes or making different household items out of wood. It was in high school art class when was first introduced to pyrography and I fell in love with it from there. Later that summer I went home and bought my first wood burning pen. I love flowers and nature so a lot of my work depict different flowers or scenes in nature. Painting, drawing, pyrography and sewing became my creative outlet that helped me to relax, clear my mind, and deal with different frustrations in life.

I do not think my body of work is influenced by someone or something but I love painting by Claude Monet, Paul Cézanne, Van Gogh, the group of seven and Emily Carr. However, with that being said there is no doubt about it… I love flowers and nature and I enjoy painting and drawing those things most.
